Because a drayage load can mean a few different things, confusion among carriers is common. Many carriers link drayage with going into a port, but that isn't always true. While all drayage loads typically originate from a port of entry, there are often several legs of a drayage journey before a container turns up at its final stop. Legs of a drayage load may include:

Why Are Drayage Companies in Austin, TX So Important?

You may be thinking, what's so important about drayage? It's such a small step in the container storage transport process. In reality, it's an integral piece needed in the logistics industry and a crucial part of U.S. supply chain management.

To truly understand the importance of drayage, let's use flowers as an example. Most cut flower shipments enter the market from areas in South America until they end up at Dutch auction houses. Once there, wholesalers purchase flowers in bulk and send those products to retail outlets worldwide. Because flowers are perishable, they typically need to be refrigerated and are often shipped in reefer containers. These refrigerated vessels must maintain a certain temp to prevent loss.

Drayage companies like RelyEx allow flower shippers to send their products from Argentinian ports to airports in the Netherlands with peace of mind because their products are protected. The only way to accomplish this feat is with the help of swift, meticulous port drayage services. Drayage companies allow flower shippers to send their products from Argentinian ports to airports in the Netherlands with peace of mind, because their products are protected. The only way to accomplish this feat is with the help of swift, meticulous port drayage services.

If port drayage is compromised, it can cause delays and even fines. You know the packages you get delivered to your front door from apps like Amazon? Without drayage and drayage brokers, one or two-day shipping times wouldn't even be possible.

As a multi-billion-dollar industry in the U.S. alone, it seems like drayage shipping issues shouldn't exist. But the fact is inefficiencies and congestion are still major problems at ports. Whether it's a lack of carriers, absent chassis, or overburdened terminals, delays lead to missed deadlines, lost revenue, and worse.

But anytime challenges exist, so too do innovative solutions.

Paperwork Errors

Typically, shippers need four specific documents to clear shipments through customs: A Bill of Lading (or BOL), a commercial invoice, a packing list, and an arrival notice. Seasoned drayage brokers like RelyEx are used to preparing these documents, but new shippers tend to miss this step due to inexperience.

Payment Delays

If a shipper only pays for part of their shipment, a vessel operator may refuse to release their freight until their bill is fully paid. Payment delays lead to cargo detention at the port of entry, which triggers demurrage charges.

Documents Received Too Late

Paperwork is needed when you're shipping goods with a drayage company. When documents like the Certificate of Origin or Bill of Lading arrive at their destination late, you can expect demurrage fees. RelyEx avoids this situation entirely by being proactive when submitting paperwork.

Additional causes for demurrage fees can include:

  • Damaged Container Storage
  • Custom Released Containers
  • Storage Containers Are Too Heavy

There was a tense moment after No. 5 Louisville took down No. 4 Texas in the women’s NCAA Tournament Monday night in Austin, Texas.

The Cardinals’ star guard, Hailey Van Lith, who led the way with 21 points, three rebounds and three assists in the 73-51 win, made her way to the handshake line, and the Longhorns' Sonya Morris was the first to meet her.

Morris made sure to hold on to Van Lith’s hand as she exchanged words with her. While the camera didn’t pick up what was said, Van Lith clearly didn’t like what she heard.

Van Lith pushed aside Morris’s hand and continued to work her way down the line before eventually looking back and saying something else.

Asked about it in the postgame press conference, Van Lith believed Morris was angry about the loss.

FELTON SPENCER, LOUISVILLE GREAT AND NBA VETERAN, DEAD AT 55

"I think there was some frustration going on," she told the Courier-Journal. "I’m not gonna let no one disrespect me. But my teammates got my back. And I don’t have nothing bad to say.

"They’re coached great. They have great players. So, it is what it is. People are sad when they lose. I’d be sad too."

Morris is a role player with the Longhorns. She came off the bench in the second-round matchup to play 11 minutes and scored two points. Texas had trouble scoring throughout the contest. Forward DeYona Gaston, the team’s leading scorer, had 12 points over 26 minutes.

MIKE ANDERSON WILL FILE ARBITRATION LAWSUIT AGAINST ST. JOHN'S AFTER FIRING: REPORT

Van Lith averaged 19.5 points per game this season, her best in three years with Louisville. Her efforts over 40 minutes led the Cardinals to their sixth straight Sweet 16 appearance.

Louisville will next face No. 8 Ole Miss, which upset No. 1 Stanford in the second round.

“Sweet 16” weekend is underway in college basketball and it is about to commence at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play after the conclusion of play Friday at Austin Country Club. The pre-tournament favorites are looking good to advance into what is the knockout round. Scottie Scheffler is 2-0 in his matches through the first two days, as are Rory McIlroy and Patrick Cantlay. Jon Rahm is 1-1 with a match on Friday pending against past tournament champion, Billy Horschel.

Tony Finau, Xander Schauffele, Lucas Herbert, Brian Harman, Andrew Putnam, Cameron Young, Taylor Montgomery, Max Homa, Sam Burns, Jason Day, J.T. Poston, and J.J. Spaun are all 2-0 in their respective round-robin play heading into Friday’s final day of group play.

The weather forecast has been accurate for the first two days of the event, with the wind strengthening quite a bit during Thursday’s action. Start times have been moved to earlier in the morning on Friday with the threat of rain, but it is expected to calm down around 1 p.m. ET – with no real wind being a factor at all, throughout the day.

I was successful in my first-round pre-tournament matchup plays, landing correctly on Finau over Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Corey Conners over Sepp Straka, and Montgomery over Shane Lowry. I missed on Will Zalatoris over Andrew Putnam.

On Day 2, I wanted to go against players that had unusually easy rounds on Day 1. I went against Cameron Young after he was so incredibly scorching hot in his first round against Davis Thompson, expecting Young to regress somewhat in his follow up match. I ended up taking a pretty a tough beat with Corey Conners, who was leading the match through 15 holes before eventually falling to Young, 1-up. I successfully went against Jordan Spieth, who was coming off of a grueling finish at the Valspar Championship and arrived to Austin on a short week. I also went against Sungjae Im, who despite winning on Thursday, did not play very well in a misleading 8-and-6 demolition of Maverick McNealy.

For Day 3, I am looking at motivational factors and who has been in good (or poor) form for the first two rounds. (All odds below are 3-way lines via BetMGM Sportsbook.)

Draws: Jordan Spieth, Xander Schauffele, Tommy Fleetwood

Fades: Shane Lowry, Tom Hoge, Sungjae Im

Jordan Spieth (-125) over Shane Lowry

My handicap in going against Lowry in Round 1 had much to do about how poor his short-game numbers have been this season versus how remarkable they had been for his opponent, Taylor Montgomery. Here we have another short-game wizard in Spieth and a player who has motivation to possibly win the group versus a player who has already been eliminated in Lowry, who is off to an 0-2 start. Off of the short week, I felt Spieth was possibly going to experience some fatigue and maybe that showed up on Thursday, but I sense a rebound here on Friday against a player who is likely a bit checked out and ready to head to Augusta National for The Masters beginning in less than two weeks.

Xander Schauffele (-130) over Tom Hoge

Schauffele is, very quietly, right in the mix to win this championship. I did not see too much love for him pre-tournament and I don’t believe he’s really received much of the buzz since, despite a 2-0 start in group play. He did pan out very strongly in my numbers crunch prior to the event teeing off, but I didn’t feel I was getting a fair outright price on him pre-tourney, so I ultimately held off. I’m starting to feel however, that his somewhat under-the-radar success through two days, is something to be reckoned with. On Friday, he takes on Tom Hoge, who is 0-2 so far in group play. Hoge has not been playing poorly, making multiple birdies in both of his losing efforts. But having done that with nothing to show for it, I suspect he might be frustrated and ready to pack his bags with no chance to advance. I’ll lay the price with Xander and the run that he is currently enjoying.

Tommy Fleetwood (+135) over Sungjae Im

Through two days of match play action, Tommy Fleetwood, in my opinion, has played better than Sungjae Im has. Im was the beneficiary of a disastrous opening round by Maverick McNealy. On Day 2, Im led J.T. Poston, 3-up through 12 holes and 2-up through 14. Im lost the match when Poston managed to win four the final six holes. That has to weigh heavily on the mind of Im, and getting up for Friday’s contest could be a real challenge. Fleetwood knows he’s done and Augusta is next on his schedule, but Im could still possibly win the group despite dealing with Friday’s ordeal. I feel like he’s stuck in the middle while Fleetwood, who has played well, can play freely, knowing he has the weekend off.

Things got chippy after Louisville’s 73-51 win over Texas on Monday to advance to the Sweet 16 of the Women’s NCAA Tournament.

As both teams lined up to shake hands, Cardinals junior guard Hailey Van Lith and Longhorns senior guard Sonya Morris were seen chirping at each other.

Morris, who was first in line for Texas, leaned in to talk to Van Lith as the pair shared a handshake.

Although it appeared cordial at first, Van Lith seemed frustrated and stormed off.

Van Lith was captured saying something as she continued shaking hands with Texas players.

It’s unclear what was said or what exactly sparked the fiery moment at the Moody Center in Austin.

“I think there was some frustration going on,” Van Lith told the Courier-Journal when asked what was said during the postgame handshake line. “I’m not gonna let no one disrespect me. But my teammates got my back. And I don’t have nothing bad to say.

“They’re coached great. They have great players. So it is what it is. People are sad when they lose, I’d be sad too.”

Louisville forward Olivia Cochran yelled “We got your back!” when Van Lith was asked about her exchange with Morris.

Van Lith led the Cardinals with 21 points, while Morris scored two points for the Longhorns.

Van Lith, who played all 40 minutes of the game, added three assists, three rebounds and two steals.

The 21-year-old has now scored 20 or more points in five of Louisville’s last seven games.

“What I’m most proud of her for is this past month and a half, she let the game come to her,” Cardinals head coach Jeff Walz said of Van Lith. “She was patient, and when we play like that, it’s pretty impressive.”

The victory propelled Louisville to its sixth consecutive March Madness trip to the Sweet 16.

Van Lith is among the first group of 15 female college athletes — and the only basketball player — that was signed as brand representatives by Adidas in August 2022.

Louisville advanced to face eighth-seeded Ole Miss, who upset No. 1 seed Stanford in the second round on Saturday in Seattle.

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The National Labor Relations Board, or NLRB, issued a complaint against Starbucks on March 7, claiming that the company violated workers’ rights and targeted Austin-area employees for organizing their workplaces.

The complaint arose after Workers United, an Service Employees International Union (SEIU) affiliate union, under which Starbucks workers are organizing, told the NLRB that organizers had been interrogated, surveilled and threatened by Starbucks managers.

NLRB complaints are not resolution; the matter will go before a NLRB administrative law judge for a ruling. Initially, this hearing was scheduled for July 31. However, a order to reschedule hearing has also been filed by the NLRB — this document was not readily available.

Read the full complaint below:

CPT.16-CA-304046.COMPLAINT-AND-NOTICE-OF-HEARINGDownload

Starbucks filed a response to the complaint on March 21. KXAN is seeking a copy of that response, but has yet to hear back.

Jackie Kirkman, a former Starbucks employee, is named in the complaint as one of Starbucks’ targets. In the course of a month, a store manager allegedly issued three disciplinary warnings before ultimately firing Kirkman on May 6, 2022. During this time, Kirkman said she was engaged in collecting signature cards that would allow her fellow workers to vote on unionizing.

“All of those came within about a month and a half after the moment that my boss was made aware that I was attempting to unionize the store,” Kirkman said. “I had had a history of significant lateness, much more than what was actually documented in the times that I was fired for, over the year that I had been employed at that store. I didn’t receive documented coaching for it, nor was I anywhere near being forced out or in big trouble because of it, until that was something that she could use to go ahead and get me out of the store.”

The retaliation alleged by Kirkman is part of a larger anti-union effort by the company, she said. According to Kirkman, other workers were told that a union would add more bureaucracy and could lead to a loss of wages and benefits.

Federal law prohibits the following quoted here from the NLRB:

But, Kirkman said, this was rhetoric supplied by higher levels of Starbucks’ management.

“That’s the thing that hurts me and scares me about this. The whole infrastructure of this company… is literally using every single tier on its salaried pay list to break the law to keep this from happening,” Kirkman said. “That’s how blatantly they’re willing to just completely ignore rights and fight against them.”

For those interested in organizing their own workplaces, she recommends discretion during the early stages.

“Corporations are scared of this. Any and all profit-based models are scared of giving us our rights,: Kirkman said. “And so fighting for [rights] is something that you have to do with a really, really high level of delicacy.”
