Because a drayage load can mean a few different things, confusion among carriers is common. Many carriers link drayage with going into a port, but that isn't always true. While all drayage loads typically originate from a port of entry, there are often several legs of a drayage journey before a container turns up at its final stop. Legs of a drayage load may include:

Why Are Drayage Companies in Columbus, OH So Important?

You may be thinking, what's so important about drayage? It's such a small step in the container storage transport process. In reality, it's an integral piece needed in the logistics industry and a crucial part of U.S. supply chain management.

To truly understand the importance of drayage, let's use flowers as an example. Most cut flower shipments enter the market from areas in South America until they end up at Dutch auction houses. Once there, wholesalers purchase flowers in bulk and send those products to retail outlets worldwide. Because flowers are perishable, they typically need to be refrigerated and are often shipped in reefer containers. These refrigerated vessels must maintain a certain temp to prevent loss.

Drayage companies like RelyEx allow flower shippers to send their products from Argentinian ports to airports in the Netherlands with peace of mind because their products are protected. The only way to accomplish this feat is with the help of swift, meticulous port drayage services. Drayage companies allow flower shippers to send their products from Argentinian ports to airports in the Netherlands with peace of mind, because their products are protected. The only way to accomplish this feat is with the help of swift, meticulous port drayage services.

If port drayage is compromised, it can cause delays and even fines. You know the packages you get delivered to your front door from apps like Amazon? Without drayage and drayage brokers, one or two-day shipping times wouldn't even be possible.

As a multi-billion-dollar industry in the U.S. alone, it seems like drayage shipping issues shouldn't exist. But the fact is inefficiencies and congestion are still major problems at ports. Whether it's a lack of carriers, absent chassis, or overburdened terminals, delays lead to missed deadlines, lost revenue, and worse.

But anytime challenges exist, so too do innovative solutions.

Paperwork Errors

Typically, shippers need four specific documents to clear shipments through customs: A Bill of Lading (or BOL), a commercial invoice, a packing list, and an arrival notice. Seasoned drayage brokers like RelyEx are used to preparing these documents, but new shippers tend to miss this step due to inexperience.

Payment Delays

If a shipper only pays for part of their shipment, a vessel operator may refuse to release their freight until their bill is fully paid. Payment delays lead to cargo detention at the port of entry, which triggers demurrage charges.

QUOTE REQUEST

Documents Received Too Late

Paperwork is needed when you're shipping goods with a drayage company. When documents like the Certificate of Origin or Bill of Lading arrive at their destination late, you can expect demurrage fees. RelyEx avoids this situation entirely by being proactive when submitting paperwork.

Additional causes for demurrage fees can include:

  • Damaged Container Storage
  • Custom Released Containers
  • Storage Containers Are Too Heavy

Schiller Park is one of my favorite strolls, no matter what season. But in the spring, they have beautiful flowers, a tranquil area to chill near the Umbrella Girl fountain, and beautiful (but smelly) dogwood trees. It’s a prime spot for photo session and park picnics and I never get sick of soaking up some sun near the pond. Where: 1069 Jaeger St, Columbus, OH 43206 Website: Schiller Park

Inniswood Metro Garden is a magical place. I’m talking straight-out-of-a-fairytale kind of magic, people. From the wisteria-covered archway to the babbling brook and waterfall feature, there’s no corner of Inniswood that will disappoint. Where: 940 S Hempstead Rd, Westerville, OH 43081 Website: Inniswood Metro Gardens

It doesn’t matter what time of year it is. Taking a walk along the Scioto Mile is always a good idea. You get fantastic views of the city and if you’re lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of some birds along the Scioto River. Where: 233 S Civic Center Dr, Columbus, OH 43215 Website: Scioto Mile

I adore the Park of Roses. Although the Formal Rose Garden doesn’t reach peak bloom until late spring/early summer, the heritage garden will be in full bloom by mid-spring. If you’re looking for a place to chill out and relax after your walk, the Park of Roses has plenty of shady spots where you can relax with a good book and get your daily dose of Vitamin D. Where: 3901 N High St, Columbus, OH 43214 Website: Columbus Park of Roses

If the weather is looking a little questionable, but you’re still hoping to enjoy some nature, swing by the Franklin Park Conservatory. There you’ll find gorgeous spaces indoor and out where you can take a glimpse at some of the most beautiful plants. Spring also happens to coincide with one of their best annual exhibits, Blooms & Butterflies. Where: 1777 E Broad St, Columbus, OH 43203 Website: Franklin Park Conservatory

Stroll through fields of wildflowers, take in scenic views of the creek, and admire the majesty of bison when you visit Battelle Darby Metro Park. The park is huge, with a variety of trails and trail difficulties. One of the best things about a visit to this park is that after you’ve worn yourself out exploring, you can head over to the hammock nook and have a relaxing swing in the trees. Where: 1775 Darby Creek Dr, Galloway, OH 43119 Website: Battelle Darby Metro Park

This go around will not be any easier. Auriemma has an injury-plagued UConn prepped for another title run. Kevin McGuff, on the other hand, is trying to get Ohio State to the Elite Eight for the first time since 1993 when Buckeye legend Katie Smith led OSU to a national runner-up finish. When it comes to domestic travel in the spring, many people think of tropical paradises ending in "Beach": Miami, Daytona and Myrtle.

But Forbes recommends a more unlikely destination: Columbus, Ohio.

Calling the country's 14th largest city "a hidden gem in plain sight," Forbes found Columbus' thriving arts district, its myriad restaurants offering global cuisine, and other offerings make the city ideal for a springtime visit.

Here are some of their suggestions for things to do while visiting Columbus (or if you live here.)

Food and drink

Among Forbes' must-try eateries is a pair of restaurants run by chef and Columbus native Avishar Barua, who also was a 2021 contestant on "Top Chef." Joya's Cafe, an Old Worthington restaurant named after Barua's mother, and the fledgling Agni in the Brewery District both received high marks, as did two newcomers to the Hilton Columbus Downtown tower, FYR and Stories on High.

Best for commuters:Columbus ranked as No. 6 best city in U.S. for commuters, according to study

Also making Forbes' list: Chapman's Eat Market, Understory, Ginger Rabbit, Parable Coffee, Lox Bagel Shop and Brassica, as well as Momo Ghar and Hoyo's Kitchen in North Market Downtown.

What to do

If you're seeking a taste of culture, Forbes urges visitors to check out the Columbus Museum of Art with its many exhibits; the Wexner Center for the Arts (fondly known as "The Wex); the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum, which houses the world's largest collection of cartoon and comic art; Columbus College of Art & Design's Beeler Gallery; the Franklinton Arts District; 400 West Rich; Chromedge Studios; and Good Land, which sells goods made from sustainable materials.

Census:Columbus among just six of top 15 cities to gain population in COVID's first year

For those who prefer outdoor scenery, Forbes touted Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Garden's Chiluly glass sculptures and meticulously landscaped gardens, and for fashionistas, Common Thread, a new Downtown strip of locally owned boutiques.

Where to stay

Le Méridien Columbus, The Joseph in the Short North along with its in-house restaurant, The Guild House, topped Forbes' list for luxury lodging and the hotel's Spa Suites were called the city's "best-kept secret" for travelers looking to unwind with a massage in their own private mini-spa, followed by a relaxing dip in a spacious soaking tub.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Almost two years after a paint plant explosion, the community is calling on Yenkin-Majestic, the owner of the plant, to commit to a "Community Benefit Compensation Fund."

Not only are some still dealing with the aftermath of the blast, but now they're facing the two-year statute of limitations.

They have until April 8th to file a lawsuit, or they won't see a penny. But, if Yenkin-Majestic keeps its "sign of good faith" and signs a compensation fund agreement, they could.

"You need to file it before the deadline. If you want to have any consideration for your home, it has to be filed by the 7th," members of the North Central Area Commission said.

While the clock is ticking for victims of the blast to get a lawyer, the commission pleading for the community for input on the compensation fund it's in with Yenkin-Majestic.

"What would you like this organization to do for you that shows that they're trying to be a good business partner to this community? That they're trying to show some goodwill?" the board added.

So far, there have been about four drafts. It lists what Yenkin-Majestic would be accountable for.

"Provide health assessments and monitoring for those residents of those households, provide pollution monitoring systems, Ron Bryant said, a board member.

Once there is an agreement:

"Money from Yenkin-Majestic go into a bank account, then the community benefit council would determine according to each family or families needs for their household," Bryant added.

This session was to ask people what they want in this agreement. Some said future scholarships for generations. The commission also brought in a lawyer who has already worked with victims of the blast to talk about options.

"Whether you hire my firm, whether you hire another firm, that's why we're in court because our clients are owed some money by Yenkin. They promised to make it right, and they haven't."

One lawsuit was filed a couple of weeks ago by a homeowner. Wednesday night, lawyers said this couldn't be filed as a class action which is why they're urging the community to file their own suits in case fund negotiations go south.
